16px;\">Who can get Medicare?<\/strong><\/p><p>U.S. citizens and legal residents<\/p><p>Legal residents must live in the U.S. for at least 5 years in a row, including the 5 years just before applying for Medicare.<\/p><p>You must also meet one of the following requirements:<\/p><ul><li>Age 65 or older<\/li><li>Younger than 65 with a qualifying disability<\/li><li>Any age with a diagnosis of end-stage renal disease or ALS<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>How do you enroll?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>You should be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B if you are receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits when you become eligible. You\u2019ll receive your Medicare card in the mail.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>You need to enroll in Medicare yourself if you aren\u2019t receiving Social Security benefits when you become eligible. Go to SSA.gov\/Medicare to enroll online, or call or visit your local Social Security office.<\/li><\/ul><p>If enrollment isn\u2019t automatic (for instance, if you\u2019re still actively working, you need to enroll with Social Security by doing one of the following):<\/p><ul><li>Visit your local office, or<\/li><li>Call 1-800-772-1213, or<\/li><li>Visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.socialsecurity.gov\">socialsecurity.gov<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>If you\u2019re a railroad retiree, you may enroll with Railroad Retirement Board (RRB):<\/p><ul><li>Call your local RRB
